Euanthe sanderiana ( Vanda sanderiana )

Dr. R. Schelchter named this genus, of only one species, in 1914 in "Die Orchideen". It is closely related to Vanda, but the diffreneces in the labellum seperate the two genera.

The magnificent plant is endemic to the island of Mindanao, Philippines. Originally ( 1882 ) Prof. Dr. H. Reichenbach ( Rchb. )named this species Vanda sanderiana, in honour of the famous nurseryman and patron of orchids from St. Albans, England, Henry F. Sander.

The picture I took shows a plant who's owner, Sanon Apicho, in Thailand is called "King of Vanda" ( on his farm you wil find more than 10.000 plants of this genus ).
